Migration is the process of moving from one broadband ISP to another.
If you already have a Broadband Internet connection on another ISP you'll find switching to Cymru 1 is as very easy.
To migrate from another ISP to Cymru 1:
1) Contact your existing ISP to obtain a MAC number:
Explain that you want to move to another provider and ask them to provide you with a MAC (Migration Authentication Code) number. This special code number is required when migrating from one ISP to another. You will need to enter this number during Step 2.
NOTE: If your existing ISP refuses to give you a MAC number, please ask them for the reason for the refusal. It may be that your existing broadband connection is of the "DataStream" type, which makes it difficult or even impossible to migrate. Alternatively you may be under a contract that prevents migration, or there may be a technical reason why you can't migrate. In such cases your only option is to cease (cancel) your existing connection and order a new one.
2) Click on the Migrate Now button below and follow the instructions:
Be sure to have your MAC number ready: When asked for the telephone number of your telephone line, you must enter the number of your existing broadband-enabled line! Our systems will detect that you already have broadband on this number and then ask you for your MAC code before you can continue.
Free speed regrade: During the signup process you can choose any type or speed of Broadband product no matter what type or speed of product you have with your current ISP: On the same day that your Migration takes place your Broadband connection will automatically be Regraded to the new type and speed you select, free of any Regrade charges. This process is known as a simultaneous Migration/Regrade.
3) Enter your contact details
Be sure to enter a valid contact Email address
during this process, as this is where we'll send confirmations to.
4) Enter your payment details:
We accept most types of credit and debit cards. You will be immediately charged for any hardware you order and for a proportion of the normal monthly package fee for the type of account you are migrating to on a pro-rata basis depending on the day of the month you sign up on. You will subsequently be charged the normal monthly package fee on the 1st of the month on a regular basis. You will also be charged a Migration fee of £11+VAT (£12.96) when you place your order with us*.
And that's it! Your existing Broadband service will continue working as normal, but within about 14 days (and normally in 2 to 7 days) your service will be switched over from your old ISP to us. During the switchover process your connection will stop working for a short while - but normally for no more than an hour or so. You will then need to use a new username and password in order to connect to the Internet - the username and password you used with your old ISP will no longer work. You can contact our Support Department for your new username and password, or you can find them in your Connect 247 Control Panel (please see our extensive Frequently Asked Questions section for more details on the Connect 247 Control Panel).
[A new page will open in a separate window] If no window appears you may have a pop-up stopper installed Please temporarily disable it during the signup process |
Please Note: You need a Broadband Modem or Router in order to use any of our Broadband packages. If your existing Broadband service included a "free" modem or router when you signed up, you *may* find they will ask for it to be returned once you move away from them. In such a situation you will need to purchase a new one. Please check with your existing ISP to see if they will require you to return your modem/router.

* Things get complicated if you are currently connected via an LLU service provider (e.g. Orange, Sky, Carphone Warehouse) ), where a company other than BT bills you for your line rental and your telephone call charges. With WLR BT still provides and maintains your line - you simply pay another company for the service. With LLU BT does not provide or maintain your line.
If you are on an LLU line, the Migration process is not always straightforward. We do not recommend that you migrate to us from an LLU line - it may involve having to totally disconnect your current Broadband connection and then signing up for a brand new connection which can mean having to pay an Activation fee and being without your Broadband connection for around 14 to 21 days.
