Unmetered Broadband is the traditional way of paying for your connection. With these packages there is no set limit
on how much information you can download or upload each month. Instead, the monthly subscription charge is simply based on the download speed your Internet connection can run at - up to 512kb/s, up to 1Mb/s up to 2Mb/s or, with the brand new Broadband MAX
option, up to 8Mb/s. In this way you can download or upload as much as you want each month without being constrained by pre-set
monthly transfer limits. This makes the Unmetered option ideal for anyone who uses the Internet almost all the time, or for people who tend to download or upload very large files on a regular basis, such as videos, program files, music tracks and so on.

Modems and Routers: You can't use your old dial-up modem to connect to the Internet with a Broadband connection. Instead you need to use a special Broadband modem or Broadband router. Some ISPs give away a very basic low-cost Broadband modem that only works with certain types of PCs. This is great, but they usually won't work with stand-alone VoIP phones (Internet phones) or X-BOXes. And because they give the modem away, they tend to tie you in to a long contract whether you like it or not. We don't think this is a good idea: Because every customer is unique and has different
needs, we feel that you should be able to choose the type of modem or router that is best for you. So, instead of giving away a basic modem and making you sign a long contract, we allow you to choose from a range of Broadband routers and even WiFi (wireless) routers. Please click here for additional information on modems and routers.
Microfilters: One or more microfilters are usually included as standard with most Broadband modems and routers, but depending on your telephone wiring you may need to order extra ones. Microfilters, or splitters, must be plugged into all telephone sockets that are in use on your Broadband-enabled telephone line, including those used by Sky Digiboxes or Freeview receivers. If you don't do so your Broadband connection will be unreliable, or may not work at all.
Static IP Addresses: For customers who require them, we can provide one or more Static IP addresses for your broadband connection. These are handy if you want to run your own website server, publicly accessible webcam, or similar applications on your broadband connection. The majority of customers will not need a Static IP address, however.
You can order a Broadband modem or router, one or more extra microfilters, and opt for Static IP addresses when you sign up for your Broadband package. Full descriptions of each model of modem and router are shown on the hardware selection page during the signup process. But please note that you are also free to purchase a Broadband modem or router from anywhere - you don't have to buy it from us. You must ensure it is compatible with UK broadband services, however, so be very careful when purchasing from non-UK sources.
