In order to use your domain with a Cymru 1 Silver account, you need to configure it to use the Cymru 1 DNS servers
(ns1.cymru1.org and ns2.cymru1.org).
This is done for you automatically if you register a domain through Cymru 1 so there's nothing more you need to do. Just click on Next >> at the bottom of the page to continue the signup process.
If you've registered a domain through a different company, however, and undoubtedly paid a much higher price for it, please read on.
A DNS server, sometimes known as a nameserver, is a little like an Internet equivalent of Directory Enquiries or the Yellow pages.
All it is is a system for translating the kind of Internet addresses humans like to use (e.g. www.cymru1.net or david@mydomain.com) into the kind of addresses computers on the Internet actually use (IP addresses, such as 217.158.42.21).
To keep things manageable, rather than one huge Internet "directory enquiries" centre, the system is split up into small chunks - think of them as individual phone books.
In order to get your domain to work properly with the Cymru 1 Silver service, in human terms all you have to do is configure it so that it gets listed in the Cymru 1 phone book and not anyone else's.
In technical terms, this involves configuring the domain to use:
ns1.cymru1.org for its primary DNS or nameserver.
and
ns2.cymru1.org for its secondary DNS or nameserver.
Exactly how to do this varies from domain name registration company to domain name registration company. It is usually very easy to do though. Just look for an option that says something like "modify/choose DNS servers" or "modify/choose nameservers" and enter the information listed above. If you have any difficulty, please contact the technical support department at the company you used to register your domain.
