[ Standard dmNumber Features ] [ dmNumber Options ] [ The dmClub ]
No matter which type of dmNumber you choose (0870, 07005, 0800, 0871 or 0207), as standard all can be used in one of three different modes: dmVoice, dmFax and, most powerful of all, dmSwitchboard. All three modes are explained in detail below. An online control panel allows you to instantly switch between modes and configure all the appropriate options. You can also configure most of the options and even record customer greetings when you are away from your desk by dialling a special 0870 automated control number.

Voice Mode: Instead of just being able to divert to one target number like an ordinary NGN, in dmVoice mode dmNumbers allow you to configure up to 4 different numbers that can be diverted to in a hunt group. When a caller rings your dmNumber, it will divert the call to the first number configured. If there is no answer or the line is engaged or even if whoever answers does not
wish to take the call (the dmNumber can be configured to asked you to press # on your telephone keypad to accept the call and to hang up to reject it), the second number will be tried, and so on until the 4th number is tried. It is even possible to divert incoming calls to mobile or international destination numbers*.
A voicemail facility is also provided as standard, which will take a message if nobody can be reached. Any message that is left for you is then instantly sent to you as an email containing a recording of the message which you can play back on your PC. An extra-cost feature also allows you to choose to receive an SMS message on your mobile when someone leaves you a message. Another extra-cost option is a 24/7 live receptionist who will take your call if you are unable to.
Of course there is no need to configure all four hunt numbers if you don't want to. Instead you can choose to divert to only one, or directly to voicemail, or to two or three numbers. It is totally up to you, totally flexible and all controlled via an online control panel with your changes being processed almost instantly. And if you need to make a change when you are away from your computer, the majority of the features and facilities can be managed using an automated interactive voice response system which you can reach by calling an 0870 number from almost anywhere.
What's more, detailed call logs of all incoming calls and where they were diverted to are always available, and in near real time, via your online control panel account.

FAX Mode: At no extra charge, you can alternatively configure a dmNumber to act in dmFax mode via your online control panel. In this mode, any faxes sent to your number will automatically be converted to a PDF document (or one of several other formats if you wish), and sent to you by email. Or, if you prefer, the fax to email facility can by configured to kick-in only if your real fax machine is busy receiving another fax. And since up to 30 incoming faxes can be received at once on a dmNumber configured in dmFax mode your "fax lines" should never be engaged.

Virtual Switchboard Mode: Voice Mode and Fax modes are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to dmNumbers. If you wish, and again at no extra cost**, using your online control panel you can configure your dmNumbers to act as a virtual switchboard (dmSwitchboard mode). In this extremely powerful mode, when a caller rings your dmNumber, they will be greeted with your own
personal greeting message, and then asked to choose from various options by pressing keys on their telephone keypad - all configured and chosen by you. For example "Please press 1 for Sales, 2 for customer services...").
Depending on the option the caller chooses, their call will then be transferred to a either a single telephone number or to a hunt group of different numbers of your choosing (for example different members of a sales team located in different parts of the country or indeed of the world*). Different numbers or sets of hunt group numbers can be configured for each "department" the you have configured for the caller to choose from.
When the call is transferred to any of the numbers you have programmed into the system for a "department", the person answering the call will be informed of the number called and also the "department" the caller chose (these will be spoken by our computer in the form of a name you can define for your number and the name of the department). They can then accept the call by pressing # or reject it by hanging up. If the call is rejected then the next person in the hunt group will be tried.
Of course voicemail is always on hand to take the call if no-one is available once the caller has chosen their final destination. And, if you wish, you can set automatic opening and closing times, with callers automatically being diverted to voicemail when your office is closed. Or, for a small monthly fee, you can alternatively opt to have calls you can't answer diverted to a live human answering service, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please click here for more info on this option.
And instead of, or as well as, departments consisting of different telephone numbers to divert the call to, you can also define "information" departments. When the caller is diverted to one of these, they will hear a set of recorded information messages which you can define. In this way, you can provide callers with information on your opening hours, directions to your office or shop, special offers and so on, all without even answering the phone.
Record your own greetings: You can choose to record all the prompts and greetings that callers hear when using the virtual switchboard yourself, or you can opt to let the system use a sophisticated and surprisingly realistic text to speech synthesizer, which will speak the words you enter for each prompt via the online control panel. If you want to record greetings yourself, all you have to do is make the recording on your computer, and upload it our systems via your dmClub control panel. Alternatively you can record greetings over the phone, without the use of a computer, by calling the special 0870 control number that will be shown in your control panel, entering your dmNumber and access code, and following the prompts you'll hear.
Hold and Transfer: And just like a real switchboard, once you take a call, you can put callers on hold (at which point they will hear some music), and even transfer a call to another destination (Mid call transfer). This latter feature is extremely powerful, allowing you to speak to the person you are transferring the call to before putting the caller through, informing them of who is calling and why. As you might expect, additional per minute call charges do apply when transferring calls using the mid-call transfers feature, but this is a small price to pay for having such powerful facilities on hand without having to invest in an expensive physical switchboard system.
Call statistics: Detailed call logs of all incoming calls made to your dmNumber and where they were diverted to are always available via your online control panel account. What's more, details are updates in near real time, so there's no need to wait until the end of the month to see this very useful information which would be the case for "ordinary" non geographic numbers.
* Depending on the dmNumber type being used (0800, 0845, 0870, 0871, 0207 or 07005), you may have to pay an extra diversion cost for diverting calls to an international or mobile destination rather than a UK one. Please click here for more information.
** A minimum usage policy of 200/100 minutes per month applies when using 070058/070059 dmNumbers in dmSwitchboard mode (only). If this is not reached, at our discretion you may be asked to start paying a £5 per month rental charge unless you switch to dmVoice or dmFax mode, or increase the usage on your number.
Mobile and International destination diverts:
If you wish, the destination number(s) you chose when configuring your dmNumbers can be mobile or international numbers as well as UK landline numbers. For 0871 and 070058 dmNumbers there is no extra charge for diverting to many countries in Europe and even the United States and Canada. This makes them ideal for international organisations requiring a UK-based contact number. For 070059 numbers there is no extra charge for diverting to UK mobiles nor for diverting to up to 180 countries around the world. However, for most other types of number and other destinations, there will be an extra charge for mobile and international NGN diversions, but our rates are very reasonable, and volume discounts are available. See our Price List page for more information.
Live Receptionist (dmAnswers):
Although the virtual switchboard and multi-number hunt group diversion facilities provided as standard with dmNumbers works very well for most individuals and companies, sometimes it is best to always have a real person answer calls for you when you can't. This is where the optional dmAnswers facility comes in. When you sign up for dmAnswers you will be allocated your own personal dmAnswers number. Used either in conjunction with a dmNumber or as a stand-alone product, when a caller is put through or diverted to your dmAnswers number, a live receptionist, available 24/7, will answer the call with your preferred greeting and will take the caller's name, number and a short message. You will then receive immediate notification (including the caller's message and contact details) by email or by SMS. Please click here for more detailed information on the dmAnswers service and for pricing information.
Gold Numbers:
When you sign up online for a dmNumber, you will be presented with a wide range of different numbers for you to choose from. When making your selection, if you wish, you can choose a Gold number for an additional one-off fee. There is no functional difference between an ordinary number and a Gold number. However, Gold numbers do contain repeated, sequential, mirrored or relatively rare (e.g. 000, 111, 123, 321123, 424242 etc) combinations of digits, making them more easily remembered or more likely to stand out from the crowd, and are an essential option for competitive markets. See our Price List page for more information.

WARNING ON 0870 NUMBERS:
Ofcom, the organisation responsible for overseeing telephone numbering, has announced that callshare revenue from 0870 numbers will shortly cease. Although there is no callshare revenue paid to customers subscribing to dmNumber 0870 numbers, the revenue paid to us by the carrier networks is used to cover the cost of diverting incoming calls to your chosen destination number. The end result is that when this callshare ceases to be paid to us we will have to start charging you for receiving incoming calls on your 0870 number. The exact charging structure has yet to be determined, though it is likely to be the same as for Pro 0207 numbers, which is 5.25ppm + VAT. We therefore do not recommend that you choose an 0870 number unless you have a short term requirement.
