Our Systems and Network:

Cymru 1 only uses high quality hardware from well-known companies such as Dell and Cisco to provide you with the best service possible, and with a minimum of downtime.

Wherever appropriate we use redundant systems so that if a serious fault develops with one network or item or hardware, another is on standby ready to take over.

We also use RAID disk arrays on all mission-critical systems.

We are also very careful when we offer our customers services that are sourced from a third-party supplier. Before entering into any agreements, we always do our best to make sure that their networks, systems and support are of a very high standard.

Software:

Like most sensible companies providing Internet facilities, the servers used for Gold and Silver customers run under Linux, in our case a version of Red Hat Linux called CentOS. This robust, high-performance operating system is, in both our opinion and in the opinion of the industry in general, the very best available for hosting.

To provide access to Gold and Silver customer web sites, we use the industry standard Apache Web server software. This has proved itself to be one of the most reliable and able web servers on the planet.

To allow our professional hosting customers to manage their domains as easily as possible, we use Parallels Plesk administration software. In a nutshell, Plesk allows customers to manage their domain via a simple Web-based interface, allowing them to configure all the many options available with the click of a few buttons.

Server Location:

Sadly, it is impossible for us to locate our servers locally, or indeed anywhere in Wales. Indeed, the servers we use for Gold and Silver customers are located as far away as London's Docklands, in the premises of an organisation called RedBus.

RedBus is one of the UK's premier "co-location" companies, providing secure housing for Internet-connected servers. As well as an expert team of on-site engineers who are available to us 24 hours a day, seven days a week to resolve any hardware problems, they provide us with extremely high levels of security, failsafe power supplies, a controlled temperature environment and automatic fire detection and prevention mechanisms. In short, they provide for our every need, though at quite a high price. However, we feel that only the best would do for our servers and our customers, so we don't mind paying the premium prices.
